The interlocking clasp is a older type of jewelry clasps. The disks designed to slide into each other are a very secure option especially for heavy chains and necklaces. The metal disks can be very basic or quite ornate center feature of the chain, and are a pretty, decorative choice.
This is one of the easiest catches that can be made and yet it is almost impossible for it to released accidentally.
All that has to be done is for two washers to be cut out of a strip of metal 1 mm thick.
The diameter is related to the actual necklace size. For this tutorial I use washers that I cut out that are about 15 mm in diameter.
I file a and sand them smooth.
Then I saw one side of each washer through.
I use a 3/0 saw blade.
Then I take a 4 corner needle file and file 45° angle on both sides.
This diagram shows the principle.
This then means that the washers can only be joined or separated when they are in the exact position in the picture.
The necklace is attached with a jump ring through the holes on either circle.
