Often gemstones are cut to less than perfect proportions.
In many cases, stones are cut for weight and the correct angles for the pavilion are discarded.
This causes the stone to have a 'window' in the center where light simply passes through the stone, instead of being reflected back to the viewer.
Using a collet with a built in reflector, the window effect is somewhat lessened, giving the stone a more pleasing look.
The reflector collet improves the window in the gemstone.
