Dear Metalsmithers,

Lights are twinkling and the bells are ringing, creating an atmosphere full of anticipation of the approaching festivities.

The history of bells is fascinating. They have been part of us for over three thousand years, playing a central role in people's daily existence.

Church bells were the broadcaster of events and gatherings in town squares.

Bells tell the time.

Bells are musical instruments, like this bell tree.

It is a highly specialized skill to make these bronze bells. Mostly bells are cast. The Tsar Bell is the largest one weighing just over a ton.

There are a few remaining bell makers, such as the Grassmayr Bell Museum and Bell Foundry in Innsbruck.

It's a traditional family business since 1599, where 14 generations have perfected their craft.

There has been a long standing tradition of wearing bells as jewelry.

Who can miss the vibrant free-spirited tinkling sound of an approaching person wearing bell charms or the clinking of stacked of bangles?
