Hello Fellow Metalsmiths,
My mind is telling me we should be in March. My calendar tells me it is the second last month of the year and the last November of this decade. Am I the only one who thinks it all went a little to fast?
So this newsletter is dedicated to titanium, a metal that never corrodes, and never disappears, unlike the aforementioned decade!
I have always had a fascination with titanium. I was an early adopter incorporating titanium in my jewelry designs since the '80.
Titanium is not a metal for the fainthearted, as it has a steep learning curve to climb.
But the more you work it, the more your feel for the metal develops.
And I have been working a lot in titanium in the past year, making many prototypes for my latest product, a jewelers saw frame in titanium.
In designing this saw, my goal was to achieve some clear objectives.....strong, light, simple to use and bespoke to you.
Simple as in easy to tighten the saw blade to the correct "ping" with the tensioning nut rather than pushing the frame against your bench peg.
Bespoke as in that every handle is a one of original, unique to that frame.
I custom make the wooden handles from reclaimed exotic woods that lends a unique feature to each saw frame.
Since we're on the subject of titanium, I have a step by step instruction on the website of how I made this Titanium Piston Ring.
