Hello metalsmithers,
Bright hot summer days are here. Yeah! A big part of summer are the shady trees with their verdant green leaves, offering refreshing shelter during the day.
I love making jewelry around animal and nature themes often incorporating leaves in the design. Marquise gemstones are the perfect shape to use as leaves.
A few engraved lines on leaves or petals make them pop out. A millgrain wheel also gives a leaf a nice finish.

To achieve the satin matt finish, I used "3M 6" Satin-Finish Buffing Wheel, 2-Ply" - Item 330547 in medium and in fine, supplied by Rio Grande.
Our scenic cycle tour this afternoon. A perfect way to get creative juices flowing.
When I'm working on a jewelry piece, where a leaf pattern is part of the design, I would usually draw a leaf design in large scale, say 10 cm in size.
Then, I would scan the drawing in the printer and save it as a jpeg file.
I would then print the jpg file, adjusting the printer setting to a percentage of the original, say 10mm in size.
These new ring tutorials show the use of leaves in the design.
